Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

1. Overview

Egret ("we", "our", "us") operates egret.host. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We collect only what is necessary to provide the Service and do not sell your data.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Egret:

  • Email address — used to identify your account and send login links. We do not require a password.
  • Payment information — processed by our payment provider (PayPal). We do not store full payment card details on our servers.
  • IP addresses assigned to your service — the public IPv4 address and internal WireGuard address associated with your tunnel.
  • Bandwidth usage — aggregate bytes transferred through your WireGuard tunnel, used for billing and display purposes.
  • Connection metadata — timestamps of service creation, last activity, and account events such as logins and config regenerations.

3. What We Do Not Collect

We do not inspect, log, or store the content of your network traffic. We do not track websites you visit, applications you use, or the destinations of your connections. We do not use third-party analytics trackers or advertising networks.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To provision and manage your WireGuard tunnel and assigned IP address.
  • To authenticate you via magic link email.
  • To process payments and maintain account credit balances.
  • To display bandwidth usage in your dashboard.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms of Use.
  • To respond to support requests or legal obligations.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your service, we may retain records for a reasonable period for legal, billing, and abuse-prevention purposes. Bandwidth logs are retained for a rolling period sufficient for billing reconciliation.

6. Third Parties

We share minimal data with the following third parties solely to operate the Service:

  • PayPal— for payment processing. PayPal's own privacy policy governs data they collect during checkout.
  • Infrastructure providers — servers that host your WireGuard endpoint. These providers do not have access to your account data.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed tokens for authentication, and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You can cancel your service from the dashboard at any time. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy law (e.g. GDPR, CCPA).

9. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in after clicking your magic link. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party cookies for advertising.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes.
